Tanzania is Africa’s premiere hunting safari destination. It boasts one of Africa’s largest big game populations and a greater variety of game then most other countries in the world. This is a country of wide-open spaces and magnificent wildlife and it encompasses some of the largest un-spoilt wilderness areas in the world. During the migratory period one can see endless herds of zebra and wildebeest followed by a host of predators large and small. It is elephant country and can pride itself in having one of Africa’s largest populations of these magnificent beasts.

Tanzania’s palm-fringed islands in azure seas offer fantastic Big Game Fishing. Yellowfin tuna, sailfish, dorado and sword-fish are but an example of what can be caught. For the discerning fisherman, Nile perch in Lake Victoria offers great sports.

Tanzania has set aside more than a quarter of the country (264,600 sq km) for free roaming wildlife conservation. No areas are fenced and animals are free to move to where conditions are more attractive. The country’s conservation depends mainly on hunting, for its long term survival. The revenue generated through hunting supports the efforts of the Tanzania Wildlife Division for the continued protection of its natural heritage. Areas that are reserved for the sole purpose of hunting are so remote from the cities that access is only feasible by private air charter. So, once you are on safari you may truly feel that the land is there just for you to enjoy!

Tanzania is an excellent bird hunting destination, boasting a great variety of species. Game birds include Guinea fowl, francolin, spur fowl, sand grouse, doves, ducks and geese.

In 2005 bow hunting was reopened in Tanzania. Hunting with bow and arrow in Tanzania must be one of the most challenging experiences any hunter could have.
